Rabindranath Tagore

Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark.

From the solemn gloom of the temple children run out to sit in the dust, God watches them play and forgets the Priest.

Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them.  Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it.  Let me not look for allies in life's battlefield but to my own strength.  Let me not cave in.

When I stand before thee at the days end, thou shalt see my scars and know that I had my wounds and also my healing.

Death is not extinguishing the light, it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.

You can't cross the sea by merely standing and staring at the water.

  1. I like the title of your new blog--You have some wonderful photos too and I love the bird down at the bottom of the page. Tagore is a wonderful writer--my collection of his poetry has an introduction essay by Yeats.

  3. Well thanks to both of you! Yes I only recently discovered Tagore, in the last year or two, but just reading what he has to say is pretty awesome! I like the way he views things. And Yeats, nice.

Yes, I know it can be a little weird checking two blogs (and maintaining them) but I feel like the people that are looking for funny stuff to read aren't really looking for [this] kind of stuff to read. Plus I think a few of my friends were slightly offended by my Catholic/religious jokes and I didn't want that to be an issue. I can have both, and they can follow what they want, or not at all. ;)

  4. Oh, and the bird photo is actually from a bird encyclopedia. That picture and the 3 doves above my "about me" are not photos that I took myself. Most photos I post are mine, but those two I have stolen until I find (or shoot) something better.

  5. I only keep one "personal" blog (I do have one that I maintain for work, but it's not at all connected with my personal one). I combine all kind of stuff, from satire to serious, from memoirs to travel, from book reviews to photos... Whatever works--but I like your satire!

btw, thanks for your comment on my review of Unsinkable. Well written and good thoughts.

  6. Well thank you, I enjoy your posts as well! Always good reading. Unsinkable seems like a very interesting story. I am convinced that I should read it now so that I can speak with more intelligence on the subject.
